What is the I Ching (or Yijing)

The I Ching is a divination system that originated in ancient China and continues to be used all over the world. The process has an intuitive component not unlike reading oracle cards. In modern times, the practice often takes the form of throwing coins and consulting the text. The I Ching reveals patterns of change that reflect the deeper currents moving through our lives. It does not predict the future, but reveals the pattern of the present moment and how to best meet it.

What to expect during this class

In this introductory class, we will learn the mechanics of how to throw the coins, create a hexagram, and find its meaning in the text. You will go home with everything you need to engage with the I Ching as a living text, so you can continue to receive guidance from it on your own.

No experience is necessary -- anyone can learn how to use this ancient method to gain immediate wisdom for daily life situations both big and small.

This class is the doorway into further I Ching study. It is required for those who wish to join classes such as “Interpretation of the I Ching”.
